A lighthouse walk in October

North of Falkenberg the sandy beaches give way to a flatter, more open coast of grazing land, shingle and low rock. Morups Tånge is a headland on this stretch, protected as a nature reserve and marked by a lighthouse that has guided ships along the Kattegat for well over a century.
The walk out is short and easy, but it feels remote. There are no trees to speak of, the wind comes straight off the sea, and in autumn the sky is full of birds.

Birds on the move
The headland is a well-known place to watch migration. In October, waders and ducks move along the coast and geese pass overhead in long, noisy lines. You do not need to be a birdwatcher to enjoy it, but binoculars help, and so does patience: the best moments often come during a short pause in the wind.
Parts of the reserve may be closed to visitors during the breeding season. Signs at the entrances explain the current rules, and they are worth following — the ground-nesting birds here are easily disturbed.
Practical notes
- The paths are mostly grass and gravel, and can be wet.
- There is little shelter; dress for the wind, not the temperature.
- Keep dogs on a lead, especially near the shore.
On the way back, with the lighthouse behind you and the light dropping, the whole coast turns the same soft grey-gold. It is a good place to end the season.
